This is one of many ceiba trees in a reserved area of the district.

My husband and I brought our 5 children (ages 12-19) for 3 days to the lodge. The lodge is located just off the Amazon (2 hour boat ride from Iquitos) and is surrounded by natural beauty. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are clean. The staff take extra care to ensure that visitors are safe and comfortable. If you are expecting the Hilton, this is not the place for you. Rainforest, good food, And a break from the internet was exactly what we were looking for.

Visits in the hammock room and cards in the kitchen were great for connecting as a family. Rubber boots are provided for allguests. The day and night excursions were fantastic and breathtaking. Wilver was our guide. He was knowledgeable and a lot of fun. Our boat driver was very good too. The food was fantastic and tasted so good after a day of adventure.

Anthony, the owner, was at the lodge too. He was very hospitable, friendly and knowledgeable. His added personal touch was appreciated. Advice - bring a flashlight, a water bottle, rain poncho, bug spray and light long pants and shirts.

“Great jungle experience”

5 of 5 stars

We have chosen Otorongo from many tour operators in Iquitos as they had an excellent reviews and with Antonio's origin it felt like that we will be well looked after and secure during our stay. We booked 5 days tour online and payed in the office in Iquitos on arrival.

We traveled to Bellavista port from where comfortable Otorongo speed boat took us 90 km down the Amazon to the main Lodge. We went by boat bird watching after the lunch and saw several sloths in tree tops on Amazon river bank. We made a plan for next 4 days. It was great because we could choose what we wanted to do and see and Antonio helped us with our plan. This way we could see a lot during our short 5 days stay.

They are very flexible to adjust to your needs and speed. We have chosen high jungle walk during next 2 days. We had excellent guide Segundo - man from local village and another English speaking guide only for 2 of us. We have walked the jungle behind the lodge all day and set up a camp for night in the evening. Next day we left very early and walked back the same way we came. We arrived back to lodge at lunchtime, had a lunch and rest and left in the afternoon for next adventure on the other side of Amazon river for next 2 days.

On the way we have stopped to see giant water lilies, than traveled to small village where we left boat and walk through the jungle about 4 km to their other lodge located by the small river surrounded by pristine jungle. We went up the river to explore flooded forest, fishing and have seen many birds and monkeys.

Next day we went down the river to explore beauty of the river and jungle. We went for night jungle walk and saw tarantulas, scorpion, insects, frogs... The last day we left the river lodge, walked back to village where we took boat to see giant ceiba tree. After we returned to the main lodge for lunch and left to Iquitos. We are very happy with the tour and really enjoyed stay at Otorongo. We highly recommend this company!!! Also the food was excellent and I had no problem with gluten free diet. Thank you!!!

Fantastic operation, Great staff, Way off the beaten path!”

5 of 5 stars

Stayed 5 nights, and from booking to departure everyone I came contact with was great! From airport pick-up, hotel in Iquitos, confirming return flight and boarding passes, it was effortless. Great trip down the Amazon and back. Rooms are comfortable but rustic, screened and yes open which provides ventilation, Beds comfortable. Meals were good, hearty, with local ingredients, not gourmet just good food and plenty of it.

My guide Wilber was great! Spotted all sort of wildlife, full of great local knowledge, Every outing was fun informative and felt like an adventure. Fantastic dolphin spotting, sloth spotting, fishing, 2 nights of jungle camping, otter spotting, just awesome, great hikes in thick varied jungle, all just awesome. Lenny the boatman was equally great, all the lodge staff were. They very flexible and seemed to customize every ones itineraries. An incredible experience from start to finish. Anthony the owner is friendly and helpful very concerned for the community and enviorment. You can't go wrong with this place for an awesome experience.
