“Great Amazon Jungle Experience”

My friends and I had a great time at Otorongo Lodge. Our guides, Osmar and Mikey made sure we had many trips on the amazon. We even stopped at a rum distillery and bought gifts at a village on the Amazon. We trekked in the jungle and boated to see pink dolphins, huge, huge waterlily pads and much more, Loved the retsident exotic birds. Food great too. Unbelievable we didn't have mosquitos. I was glad I took a solar lantern - came in handy for my nighttime wandering. Met many good friends there.

I've stayed at the Otorongo lodge three times and I've absolutely loved all of my stays. From the rainy season to the dry season, each experience has been different and I always see new animals I've never seen before. Of the 7 guides they employ, I've been on tour with 6 of them, and they are all very passionate about their work. Their quality in tours have gotten better over the months and the improvements that they've made to the lodge are fantastic - ranging from a private guest house, to new furniture in the dining room, and different items on the menu. Yes, like many reviews state, it is a rustic stay, but if you have ever been camping before and enjoyed it, this is for you!

DO ask your guide: to take you out to middle of the Amazon River to see the most amazing starry sky and Milky Way Galaxy, to swim in the Amazon River with you!, to see the underside of a giant lily pad, to borrow a canoe to kayak around the creek, to try fishing "bolantin" (fishing with live bait on a hand line) and to feed the giant paiche fish.

DO bring: ear plugs (the lodge is like one big tent, you can hear everything), mosquito repellent, flashlight, khaki colored pants (hides the mud better), a bathing suit, fresh comfy clothes to change into after your tour to lounge around in at the lodge, reading material, ziplock or waterproof bags for your camera, a poncho, a hat, small backpack for day trips, bills under 50 soles (to buy souvenirs in the town), sunscreen, bills to tip out the cook, boatsman, and your guide (if you want to be classy) and pay for any beers.

Overall, if you have a positive attitude and a love for wildlife and adventure you are bound to have a good time and make memories to last a lifetime.
