Has the Amazon River sprung a leak?

I jokingly say, Maybe the Amazon has sprung a leak , draining into the subterranean River "Hamza"

Incredible development in the Amazon River Basin near Iquitos. The water levels and rain regimen are baffling locals! After five years of uncertain flood dangers, it seems there is a drought afoot.

Normally in a rainforest, there is daily precipitation, if not for hours at least minutes of relief from the harsh equatorial sun. In the last few weeks, the rain has been close to none! Only in the past three days have we been experiencing typical climate for the Amazon.

It is startling when I walk through my gardens and I see the leaves wilting in the sun. The loamy earth cracking due to dehydration. The delicate tendrils of my giant passion fruit, withering in the drought.

unseasonal low for the Amazon

In a futile attempt, hoping to stave off desiccation, my children and I carry jugs of water to the most affected plants. My Charapita peppers seems so sad, Their dry twigs snapping with a simple glimpse

Now the 7th of March, it has rained three consecutive nights but there is still no sign of floods coming. The leveling off in the graph may be the input of rainwater staving off a further drop in River levels.

This is climate change in action, a system as a whole will not remain static meanwhile there is imbalance of temperatures and chemicals. You may not believe that our over consumptive lifestyles are responsible for it but it cannot be denied that things are changing.

As of now, the northern part of this earth is experiencing extreme snow and cold. This is largely due to the Artic pack ice dissipating into the Atlantic and cooling the whole northern hemisphere

But that's not climate change or global warming, lets just ignore that...

Swaths of Amazon Rainforest, accustomed to daily precipitation will perish and turn to Savanah in a few decades or less. The desiccation of ancient forests will bring down the largest, most delicate species. The stronger drought resistant species will take over and grow in the manner they please. less trees mean less rain, a vicious downward spiraling cycle

Who knows the answer to all of our problems. With populations and politicians polarized more than ever, a swift solution is out of sight and surely will be too lake by the time the wheels start moving in reverse.<
